MURREN - THE BIRTHPLACE OF ALPINE SKI RACING
Is Murren the prettiest ski resort of all ? Perhaps. But certainly the place where in 1922 Sir Arnold Lunn formalised what we know today as downhill skiing. My parents (Derek & Diana) honeymooned here in 1960 and this video shows the resort in all its glory on an emotional visit by my mother and I in 2008. We also see the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant at the top of the Schilthorn, which was featured in the 1969 James Bond film 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' and cross the Lauterbrunnen Valley for a brief glimpse of Wengen, home of the classic Lauberhorn ski races. My parents loved this car-free haven of beauty so much they named their house 'Kandahar' after the founding of the Kandahar Ski Club there in 1924. (January 2008)
