69th INTERNATIONAL INFERNO-RACES 2012

Press release Inferno 2012

Giant slalom at Winteregg

The weather forecast promised nothing positive for today's giant slalom. Petrus had a different view after all 380 riders were down with good visibility. Since the piste was prepared with only natural snow at the Winteregg this year, it suffered accordingly. The ruts that resulted from the many racers were filled by the helpers so all participants had a fair run.

Race chief Thomas Gertsch was very pleased with an accident-free race. Now it is time to prepare mentally and physically for the downhill on Saturday.

The three winners of the Category Women I Steuri Melanie (Grindelwald), Manuela Kaufmann (Interlaken) and Barbara Oberli (Blumenstein) were separated by only 1:01 seconds.
The fastest woman in the giant slalom, however, started in the Category Ladies II: Judith Graf (Matten b. Interlaken) won with a 1.12,00. The first prize in the category of "ladies" went to Eva Mayer (A-Neumarkt).

The race for the men’s main class was very exciting, the first three were separated by just 1:37 seconds. It was won by Cornel Bishop (Amden) with a time of 1.00,03, before Patrick Zürcher (Latterbach) with 1.00,78. Third on the podium was Mathias Salzmann (Blatten b. Naters) with a time of 1.01,40.

Like last year, Michel Kuno (Kerns) won the seniors I, his time: 1.01,33. In the senior II, Klaus Zürn (D Buchberg) won with a time of 1.09,02. Werner Fessler (Sevelen) won the gold medal at the Gentleme
