Almer and Salzmann dominate the giant slalom
Nicole Almer from Grindelwald won her fourth Inferno Giant Slalom during perfect weather and piste conditions. The Walliser, Mathias Salzmann managed to finally win the giant slalom after winning the downhills in 2006 and 2007. The superbly perpared course had a record 376 participants and was still in a great condition for those with a late starting number.
Nicole Almer gave her competitors in the category Damen 1 no chance beating Barbara Oberli by 3.15 secs and her team colleague and multiple Inferno winner Melanie Steuri by 3.23 secs. The winner of the cross country Anita Weyermann was 12th.
In the category Damen 2, Judith Graf won the giant slalom to add to her win in the cross country making her the overwhelming favourite for the Inferno Supercombination. Karin Perren from the team Eggiwil was second, 3.91 secs behind with third place going to the Austrian Eva Mayer 5.11 secs after the winner.
In the Ladies category, the German Eva-Maria Swiczinski won just in front of Eva Aeschimann from Matten (-0.16 sec) with the Brit Judith French (-7.59 sec) in third.
In the main category for the men, Matthias Salzmann from Blatten was 0.42 secs in front of Patrick Zürcher (Niedersimmental) and 0.63 secs in front of Oliver Zurbrügg (Lauterbrunnen) in third.
It was a close call in Senior 1. Once again Hermann Rösti (Niedersimmental) 0.31 secs ahead of Kuno Michel (Alpnach) and 0.34 secs better than last years main category winner Oliver Feuz from Mürren.
The german Klaus Zürn once again took the Senior 2 beating Leopold Osanger (Austria) by 0.74 secs and the multiple Inferno winner Heinz Fringer from Arosa by 2.76 secs
With the Gentlemen it was Werner Fessler (Austria) 5.58 secs quicker than Hans Heeb (Arosa) and 6.37 secs better than the Brit Nigel Fawkes.
