Surprising debuts in the Inferno Cross Country
The one time top athlete Anita Weyermann (Gümligen) and from Kandersteg Ruedi Ogi provide new names on the winners list for the Inferno Cross Country race.
Starting last in the Damen 1 category was no handicap for Anita Weyermann, she raced past many competitors to win in front of the defending champion Melanie Steuri (Grindelwald) by 53.1 secs. A further surprise was the Brit Joanna Fawkes taking third place.
In the category Damen 2 Judith Graf from Matten repeated her victory from last year, beating the four time winner Beatrix Straub (Germany) by 3.60 secs and third placed Anke Jäpel (Germany).
In the main men’s category, the 22 year old Ruedi Ogi from Kandersteg, won on the wonderfully prepared course from a start number of 408. He was 6.2 secs faster than Jonas Siegfried (Lenk) and 18.0 secs Bernhard Kiener (Gündlischwand.
The multiple winner of the Senior 1 Rainer Jäpel, skied three times around the two kilometre course in Mürren in the best time of the day, 11 min 24.2 secs, winning in front of Christian Fuhrer (Gündlischwand) by 41.9 secs and Markus Hauser (Riedern) by 1 min 17.3 secs.
Also in the Senior 2 category, familiar names were at the front, we had a German triple with Wilfried Straub in first place 1 min 1.7 secs in front secon placed Klaus Zürn and 1 min 22.5 secs faster than Rainer Buhl in third.
Esther Aeschimann (Matten) and René Spitzer (Arlesheim) won in the new categories Ladies & Gentlemen.
