Inferno Downhill: Hatricks for Rubi and Teuscher.

The 67th Inferno downhill between the Schilthorn and Winteregg is a Bernese Oberland story. Marian Rubi and Mario Teuscher both celebrated their third victories in a row. In the women categories we had three girls from Grindelwald on the podium,  and in the men’s two from the Bernese Oberland!

As in last year’s race, from Gündlischwand ski club Mariane Rubi was in a class of her own. She won the 9.5 kilometre course with a 15.65 second advantage over Nicole Almer and 25.38 seconds faster than Melanie Steuri (winner in 2007).

In the Damen 2 category, the German Beatrix Straub won by 4.01 secs from the combination winner, Judith Graf (Matten) and 21.58 secs from Tanjy Seematter from Thun.

Etelka Hauft from the Czech Republic took first place in the Ladies category with the Brit, Caroline Taylor Stuart in second and the German, Eva-Maria Swiczinsky (Combination winner) in third.

Mario Teuscher from Därstetten celebrated his third victory in succession in the men’s main category beating Felix Tschümperlin (Stoos) by 1.47 secs and Martin Streich (Goldswil) by 6.43 secs. The winner of the combination was Oliver Zurbrügg from Lauterbrunnen.

In the Men’s 1 section, Kuno Michel (Alpnach) won for the third time in a row followed by Markus Moser from Erlenbach a meer 0.33 secs behind and Ueli Wahli by 1.43. Kuno Michel also took second place in combination behind the German Rainer Jäpel.

In the Men’s 2 category, the German serial winner Klaus Zürn once again dominated the downhill and combination, clearly ahead of Josef Hettegger (Austria) by 11.26 and third placed, fellow countryman Rainer Buhl, 20.35 secs after.

In the Gentlemen’s section, Werner Fessler (Austria, but competeing for Arosa) followed his giant slalom triumph by winning the downhill, followed by Fritz Grager from Sisigen and Hanspeter Meier from Brienz.
